Ms. Sharp

Welcome to the 4th Quarter at Pathway Academy! I am really excited about the opportunity to work with third grade students in the curriculum area of writing. Writing: I will utilize a variety of resources to develop third graders into successful writers! The Six Traits approach to writing instruction makes writing accessible for all learners by breaking a complex cognitive process into six key component processes. These six processes are: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. Students’ writing will be graded with a rubric explaining a value for each component. This also helps students to track their own growth as writers. Other strategies used to teach the writing process will include a focus upon the many writing genres. Areas covered are: descriptive writing, expository/informational, journals/letters, narrative, persuasive, and poetry. I will often incorporate constructed response prompts for students to write and type out as well. Lastly, I will incorporate the Four Square method which will allow students to organize and develop ideas before they begin writing.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.  I look forward to working with your children in these areas of instruction.
